As for the drill, buy the best you can afford. I've got a Makita 15mmm hammer drill that I've had for about 7 years. It's done a fair bit of masonry drilling and hasn't burnt out yet but if I was to replace it, I'd go for something a bit bigger. I suppose the 'pro' would have to be better.
Whether or not it's $100 better is anyone's guess. If you can afford the pro one, I'd probably say check out a drill press because it's not going to cost you very much more and is going to be much better than one of these jobs.
